Zinc Recycling


The first step in zinc recycling is the collection of  materials from end-of-life products, industrial scrap and post-consumer waste. These include used batteries, zinc die-cast components and galvanised steel scrap.


Manual sorting or automated techniques such as magnetic separation, density separation or optical sorting. Effective sorting ensures only zinc-rich materials are processed further.


 Pyrometallurgical processes involve high-temperature treatments such as smelting, while hydrometallurgical processes use chemical solutions to dissolve and separate zinc from the materials.


This may involve further purification through processes such as electrolysis or solvent extraction, depending on the quality requirements of the end product. Once refined, the recycled zinc can be used as a raw material.
